Welcome to the new Fort Worth Jazz Website
As you may have read, the city of Fort Worth is in the international spotlight once again as the home town of the recent Pulitzer Prize winning Ornette Coleman; a legendary jazz pioneer, musician and composer. Although it has not been widely recognized, Fort Worth is home to many important jazz legends including Ornette Coleman, Dewey Redman, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and many other who not only played jazz, but made a profound and lasting contribution to the history of jazz music.
However, since the height of its popularity in the 80’s at Caravan of Dreams, the jazz scene in Fort Worth has continued to simmer on a low burn. Although, with the relocation of Katrina evacuees in to our fair city more than a year ago, it seesm to have been kicked up a notch with a dash of Cajun spice. With the new jazz club opening downtown, the formation of The Fort Worth Jazz Orchestra, Inc. and of course, the annual Jazz By The Boulevard Music & Arts Festival, the outlook for jazz in our fair city is definitely on the rise. Our vision for the website is to help serve as a conduit for musicians and jazz lovers to continue dialogue throughout the year to maintain the momentum for jazz happenings in Fort Worth and surrounding areas– fitting celebrations of our city’s heritage and a source of great pride for Fort Worth.
